Alcohol sales on Sundays in Texas could be a reality with this new bill

Another legislative session means it's time for another attempt to overthrow Texas' ban on Sunday liquor sales.

Texas State House Representative Richard Raymond has filed HB 937, which would allow liquor stores to sell alcohol on Sundays and expand sale hours to 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday.

This isn't the first time Raymond has tried to expand liquor sales in Texas. He introduced HB 1100 in 2019, a very similar bill that didn't get past the house.

The exclusive club of states that ban Sunday liquor sales consists of Alabama, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah, meaning all of Texas' direct neighbors can sell you a bottle of whatever you want on Sundays.
