Rep. Jonathan Stickland's Not Running Again and You Can Thank the Lord

You won’t find controversial right-wing legislator Rep. Jonathan Stickland, R-Bedford, ranting obnoxiously on the House floor anytime soon, and you’ve apparently got the big guy upstairs to thank.

In a message posted on Facebook this morning, Stickland announced he won’t be running for re-election in 2020, attributing his drop out to the “Lord’s will.”

“Eight years was enough for George Washington, and it certainly is for me,” wrote Stickland. “After much prayerful consideration and reflection, I have determined it is not the Lord’s will for me to seek reelection. Instead, I intend to dedicate more time to my family, my church, and my business.”

Don’t fret, Stickland fans! It was his grand plan all along, as he never wanted to become “part of the establishment” anyway, and definitely, totally not because he’s consistently made enemies across the political spectrum during his rocky Capitol tenure. First elected to the Tarrant County HD-92 in 2012, Stickland’s four terms in the House have been marked by petulant grandstanding and obstructionism – in May he killed a high-profile bipartisan mental health bill (later revived) meant to prevent future school shootings on a technicality, and was the only vote against the Lege’s school finance reform bill.

He made a good showing - lost by 1428 votes. There was a Libertarian in the race who pulled about that # of votes so who knows how it might have come out if it were only the 2 of them.

Anyway, Steve announced he was running again quite some time ago. He is a good guy.

That "guiding" voice inside Strickland's head indeeds works in mysterious ways! Hopefully the district is competitive in 2020 without an incumbent on the ballot.

Juanita Jean is happy https://juanitajean.com/stickland-is-out/

Jonathan Stickland (M-Bedford) (the M is for Moron) has announced that he’s not going to run for reelection next year. Normally when an idiot like Stickland announces leaving, I would celebrate, but Bedford has been infested with a terminal case Teabag syndrome, and God knows who’ll run to take his place. As one commenter said to the accompanying story about Stickland bowing out, “even if Bedford elected a potted plant, it would raise the average IQ of the Texas House by 20 points.” That may be true, and I’m certainly will for them to test that hypothesis.

Stickland has given an assist to gun nuts who’s soul purpose in life is putting a gun into the hands of every screwball and criminal in Texas (calling it Constitutional); he’s also helped laid waste to Texas education system, healthcare system, and anything the state did to help people in need.

I say good riddance and that I hope an adult in Bedford will stand up and take this seat away from the weirdos and screwballs.
