Could Texas Democrat Julián Castro run for president? He's raising his profile with a raft of midterm endorsements

AUSTIN — Julián Castro may be a very long shot for president. But he's making the standard pushes to be more visible. And — who knows? — in about 18 months, the efforts may land him where fortune can shine.

On Wednesday, Castro announced that his political action committee, Opportunity First PAC, was supporting 64 youthful, liberal-leaning Democratic hopefuls in federal, state and local races across the country. About one-third are Texans.

"We went through a whole process of looking at some of the best and the brightest young, progressive Democrats that are out there," he said on the business news channel Bloomberg TV.

Castro said the PAC's "first priority" is helping Democrats retake control of the U.S. House. It has endorsed 13 congressional hopefuls whom the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has added to its "Red to Blue" program for strong recruits.

But being a Democrat in texas is a long hard road. That being said I would love to someday be able to watch President Castro take the oath of office.

Run for President in 2020 but fall in the primary. The Democrat who wins names his as his running mate and he becomes VP after the 2020 election. Then in 2028, he runs again and wins the nomination, then due to the demographic shifts in Texas, he turns Texas blue.

I can dream, right?

the best road for Castro would be VP....think about the demographics in 2028 if we assume democrats win in 2020 and reelected in 2024...the hispanic/latino vote will be a significant portion of the democratic base by then

To set up bring the VP pick.

He needs national exposure. Without national exposure he would be “Casto who?” like “Tim who?” was in 2016.
