Ron Paul’s favorite Amish farmer shuts down raw milk business amid government pressure

Amish farmer Dan Allgyer, the target of federal raids against his tiny dairy farm for selling raw milk across state lines, has shut down his farm, after a judge sided with the Food and Drug Administration.

The Chronicle first covered his case last year. Obama administration food safety chief Michael Taylor defended the raids last summer, and consumers protested in November.

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul and many of his loyal libertarian followers have championed Allgyer’s cause.

Judge Lawrence Stengler granted the FDA’s Dec. 6 motion for summary judgment agency to stop Allgyer from selling his milk. Deborah Stockton, Executive Director, National Independent Consumers and Farmers Association, said she is “in shock and saddened more than I can describe.”

..a few of the bacteria that can be present in raw milk. This guy got into trouble because he was selling the stuff across state lines. He knew what he was doing. I doubt he used a horsedrawn carriage to haul the milk to DC, so there's just a whiff of hypocrisy here.

Raw milk was a carrier of tuberculosis causing bacteria in the last several centuries. Pasturized sour milk smells bad and taste strange but it usually will not make you sick. Cheese and buttermilk are examples.
