Pa. State Rep. Ron Waters pleads to accepting cash for official action; will resign seat

Pennsylvania State Rep. Ron Waters, D-Philadelphia, pleaded guilty in Dauphin County court Monday to accepting $8,750 in unreported, cash payments from a faux lobbyist seeking to buy his services as an elected official.

Waters, as part of his plea agreement, was sentenced on the spot by Judge Scott Evans to 23 months probation. He will also have to resign his Philadelphia-based House seat effective today.

In addition, former State Rep. Harold James, another Philadelphia Democrat, also pleaded to taking $750 in cash payments from the same confidential informant-posing-as lobbyist during a special election campaign in 2012.

James, who lost a subsequent, full-term election later that year, was sentenced to 1 year probation.
