Pennsylvania Republicans have regrets. A lot of them.

SOUL SEARCHING — The midterm election was a letdown for the GOP across the map. But no one had it quite so bad as Pennsylvania’s Republicans.

Their candidates not only underperformed expectations — they got swept under a blue wave.

Democrats in Pennsylvania won the races for governor and Senate, and they may take control of the state House for the first time since 2010, something many in the party didn’t even think was possible this year.

The shellacking has been humbling — and infuriating — for the GOP.

In time the rest of the country will also figure out that elevating racists, criminals, liars and imbeciles to high office is a bad idea.

Lots of blame on Trump for Mastriano, but the truth is Mastriano was leading the all the polls from the beginning. Trump only endorsed him late in the primary after he saw that Mastriano was already ahead and likely going to win the primary. He endorsed Oz somewhat earlier, but Oz also had a consistent, if slim, lead in all the polls. The truth is R primary voters very likely were going to pick these two even without Trump's endorsement. McCormick also ran a bad campaign at the end. Had he stuck with those early campaign ads highlighting his PA roots, which were cleaver and funny. He could also have highlighted his competency in government and his more moderate social views. Instead he tried to out-Trump Oz.

The PA Republicans apparently aren't willing to face the reality that their positions are unpopular with most people. They'd rather blame Trump.
