Pa. woman accused of starving 3 children

An Allegheny County (PA) woman is facing charges after authorities say she intentionally starved three children she was taking care of over the course of several months.

Jennifer Stout, 35, of Wilkinsburg, PA, was charged after authorities say the children – 12, 9 and 2 – were found to be malnourished and had lost a significant amount of weight since she began caring for them.

Stout told investigators she had been taking care of the children since their mother no longer wanted them and left them with her. The paternal grandfather had lost contact with his daughter and grandchildren, but through posting about it on social media, he helped police locate the children, WTAE reports.

When police found Stout with the children in Wilkinsburg, she denied intentionally starving them but admitted she should have sought help sooner, according to reports. She is in Allegheny County Jail facing charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person, according to reports.

At least there was one adult who cared about the kids' welfare.

(And the police and social workers too, of course, did.)
