Ohio Democrat Tim Ryan has cruised his way to his party’s nomination for an open Senate seat and will now take on the winner of one of the most contentious and closely watched Republican primaries in the nation.

Author and venture capitalist JD Vance is seen as the GOP front-runner in the race to replace retiring Sen. Rob Portman after receiving former President Donald Trump’s endorsement. The winner of that primary Tuesday will face 10-term Rep. Ryan in what is expected to be a challenging November for Democrats.

Incumbent Republican Gov. Mike DeWine appears well-positioned to secure his party’s nomination for another term. In Indiana, more than a dozen state House members are trying to fend off Republican challenges from the right.

Incumbent Ohio Governor Mike DeWine wins the Republican nomination for Ohio governor, defeating former Congressman and business Jim Renacci, Central Ohio farmer and business owner Joe Blystone, and Ron Hood, a former state representative from Ashville who described himself as a “forever Trumper.” All of DeWine's opponents criticized DeWine's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
