A Note from Democracy NC about the next Moral Monday

The summer is getting hotter and so is the legislative session! Despite promises to wrap up soon, the legislature continues to roll out ideological proposals that target the unemployed, people of color, women, students, the poor and near poor.

Today, the state Senate released its version of the photo ID requirement for voters. It’s WORSE than the one passed by the House! A student photo ID or an out-of-state driver’s license can’t be used. No meaningful efforts or money to educate voters about ID requirements. And so on.

Here’s how you can vent some steam! The message for the 12th Moral Monday is Respect Our Vote! Come out Monday, July 22 and bring 5 people with you!

Starting at 4:30 pm, July 22, we’ll meet up at the bridge between Halifax Mall and the legislative building (the side directly opposite Jones St). Bring a sign or make your own (we’ll have materials).

Wear your Democracy NC t-shirt! Don’t have one? Contact us and we’ll bring you one (consider a $15 donation).

Speak out against the harmful anti-voting proposals. Bring a sign about what you’re upset about or one of these -

Voter photo ID
Cutting early and weekend voting
Getting rid of Same-Day Registration
Making it harder for formerly incarcerated individuals to vote
Targeting students to make it harder for them to vote
See you Monday!

Forward TOGETHER,
