The local gop were handed gifts from that stinkin' John Edwards and Mike Easley. Both good men who imo put themselves above the law, turning themselves in bad men. While I feel Bev Perdue wasn't awful, she was portrayed as weak and ineffective, she wasn't brilliant either which led to the inevitable gop win.

The gop "redistricted" themselves into the legislative building....

otoh, 55% of ballots cast were straight D! Several tea baggers were out and out rejected though. If the gop feels it can ramrod sh*t down the throats of the voting public we will be back in business asap. I think fracking is going to be a huge issue - it may well serve to put Dems back in office. We are pretty proud of our education system, so any more cuts there will hurt as well.

We will need to take a chapter out of Obama's book and fight back hard. The Dems that are in office will have to be loud and proud. Get the message out every single time the gop hurts our state.

I was in Washington this past week. What you said is exactly what we told people who were asking about NC, and going down the road of:

"NC really is backward, isn't it?"
"Is NC really more racist than VA?"
"WHAT (the hell) happened to North Carolina?"

I think this is going to cost the state of NC in ways those Rethugs and Teabaggers can't even imagine...

Yes NC Dems are really going to have to fight back hard. Need to seize every opportunity to OPPOSE (loudly).

actually think how President Obama does in his second term and the election of the new Republican Governor will move North Carolina back to the Blue column. This new Governor is coming in planning to make a lot of changes in North Carolina, which I don't think a lot of North Carolinians know what they are asking for.

This guy is going to cut a lot of services in North Carolina, which the local municipalities is going to ante up for such as education. He wants to have oil companies drilling off North Carolina's coast, for profits. I don't think it has anything to do for jobs but profits. North Carolina has never had a right wing legislature or Republican government. This will be new for this state. I definitely listened to this fell a's debate. I do not think this guy is for the state of North Carolina's interests. I think he is beholden to the national Republican Party.

I also think the Tea party had some influence in North Carolina. One thing McCrory promised to do as his first act in North Carolina was to enact voter ID. Since when has the state of north Carolina had a problem with voter fraud in this state's history? Pat McCrory knows this. This idea came from the national Republican Party and the Tea Party.

He'll probably try to infringe on individual rights also such as planned parenthood and abortion rights. I expect a lot of problems from this guy. I also expect President Obama to be very successful in his second term and the lies told on his Administration will be exposed in this state. One of the biggest reasons I think Obama loss North Carolina this time was the influence of racists giving people an excuse to vote against President Obama.

The drop in his support came from whites. He got 35 percent in 2008 which was small anyway but he only got 31 percent this time. That is the reason he loss. I think people were voting off race and not for their interests. Nevertheless, I still think the growing Demographics will get them in the end just like their entire racist party of they don't change. So it doesn't bother me, especially when I see Virginia and Florida going Blue twice. One step back for North Carolina but two steps forward in 2014 and 2016 with this experiment. As the Repukes say, Pat McCrory will be a one term Governor in North Carolina.

"a lot of North Carolinians don't know what they're asking for" --I'm sure the incoming Rethugs will get to work real soon--and so there's hope for some serious buyer's remorse to set in.

Racism re. Obama himself was fueled by racism renewed at state level--ie. worries about changing demographics and trumped-up fears of "socialism." These are your predictable racists, the old Helms crowd now inspired by Fux and Rush.

You have to distinguish them from the big money Rethuglicons. The fat cats have less of a problem with Obama's race, since he is of their socio-economic class. But they will crassly capitalize on racism in their lo-info bedfellows.

In addition to getting Teabagged & Koched, we got badly skunked by the business & banking sector IMO, for whom race is not nearly as much of an issue as Mon-ey. NC is targeted for a level of economic exploitation that may make Sleazely's personal perks look like peanuts.

I like your optimism John2--and I hope NC liberals don't just slink away in shame. This is NOT the time to do that.

Sweet potato beer out of Durham!

We need to discuss fracking and volunteer efforts for voter IDs (with Rs controlling everything, you know it's coming...).

Should we try to do one before Thanksgiving or between Thanksgiving and Christmas or both?

I agree that fracking could be a big issue in this state if people are educated.

The Village Grill sounds yummy!

Thanks, have a good TG. We've got 14 coming that day & 10 staying thru the weekend. Do this every year but this time will have two New Zealanders. Should be extra festive, a further celebration of the election (before reality sets in...) I can toast my sis & bro-inlaw who worked for OFA in VA at least. They're feeling good. And I think we can at least take heart from the way NC is trending, county by county.
