Rev. Al Sharpton fired back at police union officials this morning, slamming their criticism of his meeting with Mayor Bill de Blasio and blasting the idea of a work slowdown in the wake of the medical examiner ruling Eric Garners death a homicide.
They should obey and enforce the law, and you cannot obey and enforce the law with an illegal chokehold. For policemen to be standing up defending an illegal holdand acting like the reason theyre defending it is because I had a meeting that Ive been having for 20 yearsis very scary, Mr. Sharpton said. Theyre defending something illegal. Can you imagine me holding a press conference defending an illegal act?
Mr. Sharpton spoke to the press outside the offices of powerful union 1199 SEIU, and was joined by its president, George Gresham, following a meeting with community leaders. The two announced plans to hold a march across the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge August 23, and both responded to comments made yesterday by Sergeants Benevolent Association President Edward Mullins that have been interpreted by some as a call for a work slowdown.
So going forward, members of the NYPD, we want you to do your job we want you to follow the rule book the way its written, Mr. Mullins said yesterday, and if theres a delay in getting to the next place, so be it.

Sergeants Benevolent Association President Edward Mullins lashed out at the de Blasio administration for a second time today, arguing that its reaction to the death of Eric Garner has left cops constantly afraid for their jobs.
Mr. Mullinswho yesterday blasted Mayor Bill de Blasio for his closeness to Rev. Al Sharptontold listeners of the Geraldo Rivera radio show that the administrations lack of support for police officers has left the force in terror of facing criminal prosecution any time they do not follow the NYPD handbook to the letter.
They are leaving us in a situation we are jeopardizing our own safety and our own careers, Mr. Mullins told Mr. Rivera. You cant expect a guy to come to work today and not be afraid.

Afraid of following the rules, afraid of dogs, afraid of their shadows...maybe if they're that afraid, perhaps being a cop isn't the job for them.
Maybe something easier like a member of Congress, that doesn't take much effort!
