Real Estate Agent: De Blasio Family Home Could Fetch $7,500 A Month As Rental

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Like the Jeffersons, Mayor Bill de Blasio is moving on up to the East Side — in his case to the Gracie Mansion.

So, for the right price, you might be able to rent his home on a tree-lined street in Brooklyn, CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer reported Wednesday.

It’s a 100-year-old yellow clapboard home on a leafy street in Park Slope. It’s very, very secure, with a police guard house outside and a newly installed high-tech security system in a tree outside.

“It’s a hot commodity to get a private house in this neighborhood,” real estate agent Stephen Raiola said.

It's Park Slope and rents there are very high.Especially Brownstones or townhouses.

Sally Goldenberg

Mayor Bill de Blasio in recent years has raised the rent for one apartment in the two-family house he owns in Park Slope, while freezing the rent for the other, according to a family spokeswoman.

The information was provided to Capital upon request, one day after the Rent Guidelines Board ignored a request from de Blasio for a rent freeze and instead approved a small increase for residents living in stabilized housing.

Rent for the one apartment increased by varying amounts from 2009 through 2014—costs de Blasio justified because of improvements he and his wife, Chirlane McCray, made to the Brooklyn property, the family spokeswoman said.

Those upgrades included a new roof, stove and basement door, removal of an oil tank and sealing of a wall, the spokeswoman said.
