Long Island teen pleads guilty over attempt to join al-Qaida

BABYLON (WABC) -- A Long Island teen pleaded guilty to a material support charge after allegedly attempting to fly to Yemen and join al-Qaida.

Federal authorities say 18-year-old Justin Kaliebe, of Babylon and Bay Shore, found his inspiration from many in al-Qaida leadership, including Osama bin Laden.

He pleaded guilty to attempting to travel to Yemen in order to join al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.

He was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport when he tried to board a flight to Oman.

He didn't even board the plane, land in the country, ask around, maybe get rejected, etc. Intent

how by attempting to fly somewhere to join up with nefarious groups makes you a terrorist.

Now, if the kid comes back after jihadi training, and does something stupid, I can understand arresting him.

Hopefully, he will be arrested before he does said stupid thing.

Really have a problem with arresting teens before they have done anything stupid.
