WSU to host debate about Confederate flag displays

WINONA ... Winona State University is finalizing plans for an "Oxford-style public debate" about the Confederate flag ... On Aug. 26, a white male locally known for flying the Confederate flag on the back of his truck struck a 4-year-old African-American boy in front of the Maplewood Townhomes ... That incident was preceded by a Maplewood Townhomes resident stealing and burning a Confederate flag from a truck parked in the neighborhood ... More than 100 people attended the city's first forum, including about 10 who identified themselves for openly flying the Confederate flag. The Winona Daily News reported that Jacob Moore told the crowd he identified the flag with a "blue-collar lifestyle" that includes hunting, fishing and driving trucks but admitted afterward to feeling some remorse after learning how it was viewed by others ...
