This story has been updated to include statements from Wren and Murphy, which were given after the original published story.
Emails show a Donald Trump re-election campaign official personally asked UF Student Body President Michael Murphy in September to bring Donald Trump Jr. and Kimberly Guilfoyle to campus the following month.
Caroline Wren, the national financial consultant of Trump Victory, the presidents 2020 re-election committee, said she was looking to bring Donald Trump Jr., Kimberly Guilfoyle and Republican National Committee Co-Chair Tommy Hicks to UF on either Oct. 9 or 10.
Trump Jr. and Guilfoyle spoke on Oct. 10 at the University Auditorium to an audience of more than 800 for a joint payment of $50,000, which came from student tuition fees. Hundreds protested outside the venue.
The Alligator received the exchange between Wren and Murphy Wednesday evening in a tip from Mariana Castro, a UF alumna who requested the public records through the university. Castro also posted a photo of the email exchange on her public social media. The Alligator submitted a similar request on Oct. 6 and has not received the records as of Wednesday evening.
Murphy told the Alligator on Oct. 5 that SG initiated the contact with Trump Jr. and Guilfoyle, and when Trump Jr. agreed to speak, ACCENT contacted his representatives. Murphy responded to the Alligators initial request for comment Wednesday night. The Alligator is waiting for further response.

(7,947 posts)And that little tripe Donnie has the effrontery to criticize Biden's son?
Just to be clear-- he probably made more from the university in one night than most of the adjunct professors there make in 2 years of actually teaching students.
(Sorry... I'm adjunct at another state university, and we barely make minimum wage. And this worthless no-count just gives a lousy speech about his horrible father, and he gets $50K?)

(17,863 posts)It is bad form to do it in the middle of a presidential campaign. Chelsea Clinton spoke in 2015 for $65K to speak at UMKC. The funds came from a private source and not student fees though.
What I liked about Chelsea Clinton was that she had a 20 minute question and answer period.

(17,863 posts)and other controversial speakers should be subjected to an extended Q&A period. In this case several minutes set aside for the opposition political party on campus.
It is bad form for a political campaign presentation to be paid for by student speaking fees in general. DTJ should have the right to speak on campus. I just would like for him and the other surrogates to engage in a meaningful Q&A afterwards.

(7,947 posts)Might make the decisions on speakers. I'm surprised the president would have the authority there.
