Sober-home taskforce has now arrested 32 in crackdown
A Palm Beach County taskforce has arrested four people this month in a crackdown on unscrupulous practices in the drug recovery industry, bringing the total to 32 arrests.
Steven Johnson, 45, and his wife Melissa Johnson, 36, both from Palm Springs, were arrested Monday and charged with patient brokering while running their West Palm Beach recovery facilities, according to a Palm Beach Sheriffs Office arrest report.
Florida law prohibits anyone from offering or paying any commission, kickback or bribe to promote the referral of patients to or from a health care provider. Palm Beach Countys Sober Home Task Force began cracking down on such abusive practices last year.
Steven and Melissa Johnson own Reel Recovery and Palm Beach Recovery and Wellness at 6600 S. Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach. Steven Johnson was also arrested in March on 48 counts of patient brokering.
