'The DMV needs more spiders' said no one, ever. But a new kind is on its way, experts say.

In case you need time to mentally prepare, the critters probably won’t be here for a while. Plus, data so far shows they are harmless - but still a sight to see.

The Joro spider's golden webs took over yards all over north Georgia in 2021, and now some DMV residents could be next.

Since its emergence down south, the spiders — which originated in Japan — have been spotted in South Carolina. Entomologists expect it to spread throughout the Southeast through its method of weaving web-parachutes to get around on gusts of wind.

WUSA9 spoke to an expert about what to know about the bright crawlers and their cobwebs before they land.

First of all, the spiders are harmless. They won't hurt you, your pets or your lawn — based on early data.

They eat mosquitoes... I'm all for them

Their webs are works of art and quite resilient

I think they're cool.

Well,I think Joro spiders might be my friend too.

Now we just need harmless predators that eat fleas, ticks and murder hornets.

I had a bad experince with them at a picnic when I was a kid..

Maybe I can be willing to forgive the yellow jackets ,hell, they eat mosquitoes too!

But ,yellowjackets stay out of our drinks and food and stay the fuck away from people that get anxious around you.

You might go like a mosquito with a smash.

Yellow jackets are ruthless.

I still don't like spiders. I find them fascinating, but don't really like them. If they get up here to Delaware, we'll probably have a ton in our back yard. We back up to the woods and have stink bugs and mosquitos galore.

OH! Maybe they'll eat lantern flies!!!

The lantern flies get decimated by the Joro spiders, and all the stinkbugs. Joro spiders please make stinkbugs and lantern flies extinct in America...and kill many ,many mosquitoes!
