The Geologic Oddity in Arizona; The Wave

One of the most unique and sought-after geologic formations to visit in Arizona is known simply as "The Wave". It consists of more than 100 feet thick of numerous alternating layers of sandstone emplaced during a time period when the American southwest was the site of a dune field larger than seen in the modern Saharan Desert. This video describes how this unique rock formation came to be and what exactly cross-bedding is.

There are no trail markers. Also, National Park Service issues limited number of permits per day.
