He resigned because his daughter was kidnapped.

I’ve watched Seasons 1-4 twice a year since TWW went off the air in 2006.

I never re-watch S5-7 because, with Aaron Sorkin and Tommy Schlamme gone, it wasn’t really the same show after Bartlet invoked the 25th.
