Related: About this forumSo I'm walking 6 miles a day as part of my effort to socially distance from the refrigerator
And of course I'm carrying my camera. Working at practicing my macro skills, small game hunting if you will.

Thistle gone to seed.

Texas primrose. They also come in pink. Seldom see just one, they're usually in a massive display.

This little guy is about the size of a housefly. Never stops moving in a very erratic and nervous sort of way. Doing my best to get a face forward shot but he moves, the wind blows and I'm not the most stable platform. The keep rate on this guy is very low.
So, bear with me while I lose this extra 10 pounds that sheltering in place has given me.

TBH I thought the first one was a bunch of Trout flies.... thistle seeds though, whew!

(14,559 posts)Shooting macro 'in the wild' isn't like a studio setting. I'm having difficulty getting within focus range quickly and dealing with all the motion. Just takes practice and lots of discarded images. I'm getting real good at 'delete'.

(14,559 posts)for the first mile and a quarter but between being 15 years old and little short legs she fades pretty fast. Short walk to placate her then pick up the camera and get serious.
Day 4 and the scale says I've lost a half pound!

(9,426 posts)Nice way to accomplish the loss, not boring at all. The dog sounds sweet, too. So much a part of our lives and families. Keep up the good work.

(14,559 posts)I'm still having issues with getting into focus range quickly. What I'm getting better at is seeing the composition.

(17,984 posts)In full bloom right now next to my front porch. A friend from Church gave me one last year.
They need to be planted in an enclosed space.

P.S. Beautiful shots. The thistle is dramatic.
