The Eurasian Collared-Dove

Eurasian Collared-Dove

Non-native species (to America). Making its home in Louisiana (and other places). The black collar only covers the back of its neck.

The birds stay in the shrubs during the day and come to the trees at nightfall. Tonight it is raining hard and they arrived a little early. I wanted to get closer but I wasn't taking my camera out in the downpour. I normally don't see them out so openly. I'll catch a glimpse of them from time to time but they're usually flying between branches when I do. The other birds in the trees don't like them much.

There's something so SOFT about doves' appearance. elleng Feb 2012 #1
I like doves. These tend to upset the smaller birds though. Solly Mack Feb 2012 #2

There were 4 doves in total. 2 flew off to the tree behind my neighbor's house.
