Related: About this forumA mildly different version of A is for - while we wait for the contest to start
This time, instead of choosing an image suitable for the verb starting with the letter let's start a little narrative about the photo with the letter. Anything goes. In essence it's a photographer's choice of using words and clowning with the alphabet to bring us a photo. Then there will be a little background about why this one.
It makes us learn about the photo, and the photographer, fun all around.
A is for Abstraction in the Snow
a photo I took a few years ago while putting on boots and venturing out into one of our very rare snowfalls. In this photo my fun was to crop it in such a way that it became artistic in bringing color to the snow by being a simple photograph of a half dead small bush in the snow.
It's no big deal, obviously, but this rundown of the alphabet would make any photo you want to show the next one, if only you start your narrative with the proper letter.
(I came up with this because I could not sleep, and I was bored, if you don't like it, I'll fill it all in myself)

(149,699 posts)This is a picture of a water lily that was growing in my daughter's front yard...I fiddled with the color and I cropped it. Then I framed it in a beautiful glass frame and gave it to her for Christmas! It was remarkable because she's the artist in the family. She paints for a living.
She loved it.

(1,576 posts)The chapel was built in 1952 on the site of the original, and first, Catholic church built in Aruba in 1750 by a Spanish missionary, Domingo Antonio Silvestre. It sits on the windward side of the island, the shore line faces east. The chapel is located in the cunucu, (the Papiamento word for country side) and is not just a popular tourist attraction. The church is still used for Mass and residents are there every day, all day for devotions.
I had decided to go do some moon rise shots and when I arrived there were hundreds of people there for Good Friday services - the chapel is tiny, there are concrete benches in the courtyard to accommodate large gatherings. Services ended just a bit before moon rise and the majority of people had departed. Several people were still there and this is the best shot I made that evening.

(22,380 posts)and comment on all the photos. But this is so interesting to me, especially knowing the background a little. If it weren't for the steeple I would think I'm looking into someone's living room. The light is fabulous overall and the moon reflection like the dot on the i.

(1,576 posts)I had driven by hundreds of times. The sun was low in sky and the curtain, brilliantly lit, caught my eye.
Knowing how fast the light could change, I slammed on the brakes, pulled to the side of the road and started unloading and setting up ( I was using my 4x5 at that stage of my photography). I got 2 shots before the sun dropped and the store was shaded by the house across the street. The coke bottles were a bonus.
My wife is always on my case saying I am dangerous when I drive because I am always looking for photo-ops rather than concentrating on the situation at hand. Sometimes you have to be a bit reckless if you want the shot.

F for Flying.
This is on top of the Säntis, a mountain in Switzerland. After getting up there by scary cable car this wonderful stairway presented itself.
The lettering on the glass says: "At first I must get over the mountains, but then I just spread my wings and fly and fly and fly".
As I preview this I see the lettering which was as clear as can be on my screen got all muddled in the upload.
Oh well. It's a pretty stairway - and a sentiment worth pondering.

(1,576 posts)It' s moving slower than this snail was. I guess it may be just you and me, Mira. I try to limit myself in threads such as this so as to not be a hog ... but I have thousands of photos and a pretty good command of the alphabet. I'll definitely wait an hour or so before posting again to give others a chance.
And here are 2 more snails. On a cactus. In Aruba. I was so surprised to see snails in the desert.

I like two things about this thread:
One is I can throw a dart and chose a photo and make up a word for the alphabet
Two is I get to see more of your camera work. You are an incredibly inspiring artist. Your garlic and onions, and later your pears are photos I'd give a lot to call mine. Carry on!
It's not our fault they don't participate.
Here is the cycle that is hiding in the bushes

(17,087 posts)I took this photo this morning of Cleo's outdoor water dish after putting one of her tennis balls in it to demonstrate the frozen water. She was not happy with me when I took the ball back inside instead of playing fetch. Brrrr...
(I had a hard time with "I", btw. )

(17,087 posts)Three generations of Jeeps (JK, YJ, and my TJ/LJ) up on top of Imogene Pass (or near enough). I liked the red, white, and blue motif, even if they are out of order. Hey, it was just a coincidence, not a staged photo.
(Okay, I'm done for now.)

(1,576 posts)He took this shot about 25 years ago. Shot with Fuji Velvia loaded into his trusty Bronica 645, he was enthralled with the delicacy of the flowers and the contrasting severity of the barbed wire. Having only 5 stops of latitude, he was not wholly pleased with the end results as the highlights were entirely blown out ... but then again ... he can be his own harshest critic.

(22,380 posts)This is a photographer's favorite of mine. Maybe because the repose is so deserved. We had been in the river in the jungle in Costa Rica, and the guide was exhausted from rowing us away from the crocodiles. No. I'm not joking.

We have illustrious visitors in this thread, Michael, plus there are quite a few who come and look.
We're about half way there. I bet we can finish this by the time the contest starts

(1,576 posts)I guess I don't have such a good command of the alphabet .... I jumped to q, completely missing O & P ... my bad.
A lovely fall and once again the light hitting the side of the barn caught my eye. A soft filter on the lens completed the mood. Plus in post processing I burned the side of the barn and dodged the the trees.
Night all

(1,576 posts)It was as if the usually tranquil water had been possessed by demons. The photographer had to venture out to witness the onslaught first hand. Much to his surprise, his neighbor's dog was sitting at shore's edge, another brave soul daring to defy the fierce wind and stinging brine. Not sure if the dog was merely observing or in fact, taunting Mother Nature, the photographer drew his camera from under his shirt and took the shot.
Hmmm ... funny dog
Or as least wicked looking
