Chives have a convenient habit. They make purple flowers that have to be picked to allow the colony to thrive and those flowers just HAPPEN to be really tasty in a stir fry! Our colony dates back to '86 or so and has been divided too many times to count. We've given away hunks of it on a regular basis and it keeps getting stronger.

Did you know you can freeze them? Chop them like you were going to top a plate of nachos and put them in zipper freezer bags. It takes about five minutes for them to defrost and it's very hard to tell they aren't fresh. We dry them too, but there are about seven months a year where we just walk outside with a pair of scissors.
