...and by "in the rain forest", i mean about 15 or 20 meters from my front door. this is a heavily cropped, high ISO throw-away shot (there wasn't much light where it was perched)....between the high amount of noise and the fact that the branch looks like it's growing out of its beak, i am posting it to show you how not to do wildlife photography.

(34,555 posts)Cardinals are very pretty birds, don't get me wrong, but they're not in the same league as parrots, macaws, and toucans.

(9,879 posts)...they, and blue jays, were my favorite neighborhood birds, growing up in chicago.
great photo....did you take it? if so, can we see the full resolution version?

(34,555 posts)I tried putting a bird feeder on my second-floor balcony, but nobody came, not even squirrels, lol. I live in a "u" shaped building, and I've hardly ever seen birds come inside the "u" for some reason. It's a very nice courtyard, but I guess they have better pickings elsewhere.

(3,434 posts)What numbers of these birds do you see? Are they a threatened species?
Gato Moteado
(9,879 posts)...they are pretty common here....i see at least a couple every day. they are not threatened, but, of course, everything would be doing better if we stopped cutting forest for cattle and started reforesting instead.
