(1,374 posts)Dec 1, 1993 - Boutwell Auditorium - Birmingham, AL
I'll never forget this show. I was a huge fan and and it was just an outstanding experience. R.I.P. Kurt.
The best I've seen recently was Stone Temple Pilots at an outdoor festival also in Birmingham. They totally rock!
The best large production show I've seen is Rolling Stones Steel Wheels at Legion Field - Birmingham.
1st runner up U2 - Zoo TV - Legion Field.
2nd runner up Pink Floyd at Legion Field. (although it seemed more like a laser light show because the performances sounded exactly like the recordings and I had cheap seats in the nosebleed section)
The best small intimate concert I've seen is Ritchie Havens at Blues City Cafe - Memphis, TN - 1995?
1st runner up Helmet and Faith No More at a small college venue.
2nd runner up Blind Melon - also while in college. I'm still love that band. R.I.P Shannon.
I don't get out to see many concerts these days. Remembering these shows reminded me that I should, so thanks!

(531 posts)I saw Richie Havens many years ago, and being a guitar player myself, I was amazed by his technique.
Here's a few of mine (this really dates me)
In no particular order
1. Allman bros (with Duane)
2. Deep Purple ( original line up)
3. Yes (original line up)
4. Pink Floyd (The original Wall tour)
and speaking of intimate shows..
1. Ian Anderson from J Tull, playing all of the Tull songs acoustically with just a percussion player...wow !!!!

(1,374 posts)I'd kill to be able to go back and see the original Pink Floyd Wall tour.

(5,604 posts)It was at a smallish outdoor amphitheater in Toronto. The security was lax, so I just got right up in front of the stage and was transfixed for like 2 hours staring up at him in sheer awe. Changed my guitar-playing-ways forever.
The Allman brothers band are an incredible live band too, seen them twice also.

(531 posts)Being originally from Texas AND a guitar player, I idolized SRV.
In fact, I know it sounds weird, but even though I can play his songs in a semi-coherent way, I refuse to do it. I've seen so many players try and fail and it's a sacrilege. Now, that being said, I have definitely incorporated a few of his tricks into developing my own style.

Oh wait ..... Foo Fighters are absolutely amazing in concert ....
Damn ... I fergot Nine Inch Nails .....
Those 3 bands simply blow everyone else off the stage, imho .... SO much energy runs through their shows ...
Arcade Fire was non stop rockin in the aisles .... I've been to MANY concerts since the late 60's .... Nobody comes close ... not Zep ... Not Yes ... Not the Who ... Not Tull ... Not the Stones ... Not the Killers ... Not Franz Ferdinand .. Not the Black Keys ... Not BOC, ELP, ELO, OMD, Devo, B52's, Bowie ..... (I have seen them all and more ...) ....
That's my story and I'm stickin to it ...

(1,805 posts)in 1974 - knocked us on our ass for hours.
Bob Dylan - too many to count
Little Feat (when Lowell George was still around) at the Santa Barbara Bowl
Leon Russell (back in the day)
Rory Gallagher - so underrated!
Foghat at a community college. Unbelievable.
First Stones concert in Long Beach in 1963 (or was it 64)?
Janis at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach - 67 I think.
Gogol Bordello at the Brick by Brick in San Diego. Kick ass show.
Far too many more to even mention!
As I'm an ole hippie chick, there are some I'm not quite clear on. What a great time to grow up!

(42,239 posts)along with others from here. That was followed the next year by their own tour. I think the Long beach gig was in with the former. I've never actually seen them live. In the early days they tended to play R & B clubs central and west London whereas I used to hang out where I lived in NW London. I do recall seeing The Animals live before they made House of the Rising Sun. Looking back another memorable occasion at the same gaff was the first time Rod Stewart was allowed to sing when he just played harmonica with the band John Baldrey had taken over following the death of its leader.
Funny thing is that our groups at that time largely made their names playing much of your own , some almost forgotten at the time, music.
Yes it was a great time to grow up. I'd learned to dance to R & R and trad jazz when I was 16 , 1960 , and still go out dancing to that stuff a few times a week now.
btw - we didn't have big concerts here until maybe the Stones in the Park concert in Hyde Park 1969. After that they picked up on using the ool Wembley Empire Pool . now Arena , and the Stadium itself for big concerts.
Hyde Park concert documentary here :

(21,925 posts)Stanley Clarke on bass, Chick Corea on keyboards, Al Dimeola on guitar and Lenny White on drums: musical giants all. My band learned the piece below virtually note-for-note off the album. Somehow we got away with playing this tune in dance clubs in the 70s without the owners getting too upset.
Next to this, I'd have to mention the three times I saw Hendrix in concert. I once had the privilege of sitting six feet away from Joe Pass in concert, one of the greatest bebop jazz guitarists of all time and another legend Barney Kessel as well.

(287 posts)The Chambers Brothers, New Years Eve 1969, Fillmore East. Rang in the new year doing Hey Jude. WELL. A memorable night.
I saw The Chambers Brothers many times. This was the best I saw them.
This concert was so good I don't even have an honorable mention. And I saw some good concerts in both NY and SF during the '60s.
As many great bands as I saw, I missed more than I saw. So much great music was being played then. The band I most regret never having seen -- Big Brother and the Holding Company, fronted by Janis Joplin. Doing Ball and Chain.
The most memorable live performance of a song I was fortunate to see -- Procul Harem doing A Whiter Shade of Pale. Budweiser summer series in Central Park. For a buck!
Regis Auditorium, Denver, 1967?, crowd of about 500.

(1,681 posts)It was early 80's Madison Sq for the Number of the Beast/Screaming for Vengeance tour. Maiden opened for Priest. During Priest's set the fans ripped out the foam cushions in the seats and the air was filled with giant foam frisbees. Eventually a lot of them landed on stage where Halford mounted a mountain of seats like a conquering viking king. Not gonna say he said anything to dissuade any further destruction but Priest got banned for life from MSG.

(15 posts)Over many years, I tried to alter my fate by my hands. However, no matter how hard I tried, it ended up with failure. I felt puzzled and even collapsed. Why? Why couldnt I realize my dream and alter my fate despite all my efforts? I kept asking, but couldnt get the answer. After watching this video, I understand that the fate of a person, a nation, or even a country is in the hand of the Creator. If mankind wishes to have a good fate, they must bow down to God in worship. Then, everything will be different. Ive found the answer to my life. Wont you come and listen to the voice of the Creator?
I think this is a heart-shaking concert.
Enjoy yourself! God bless you!
