Tones on Tail were a British post-punk band formed in 1982, originally as a musical side project of Daniel Ash of the gothic rock group Bauhaus. Their music was described by one critic as "doom-and-dance-pop."[1]

‘Tones On Tail’ is studio lingo that the recording engineer would write on the tape box indicating that the bias tones for set up our placed at the end of the tape reel. “Tails out “is another note that could be written, indicating that they tails are out , meaning the tape has to be re-winded to the beginning before played.
