(3,329 posts)I saw them when they opened for Fleetwood Mac in 1975 at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (also known as the University of Peanut butter & Jelly), in PA. Buckingham and Nicks had recently joined the band and the Fleetwood Mac album had been released a few months before the concert. The student union gym, or the Student Onion as it was known to students at the time, had a capacity of probably less than a thousand persons. The room had lousy acoustics and while the Aces were loud, FM's instruments were so loud that I couldn't hear the vocals.
The show got off to a shaky start when the Ace's drummer fell backward off of his throne, off of the riser and onto the stage floor. It looked like he'd been badly injured but he got back behind the drums and they finished their set. Of the two bands, the Aces sounded like the pros. Before the show I'd probably heard their hit, but nothing else by them. I'd come to see Fleetwood Mac, and was a big fan at the time. I bought Stacked Deck after that show. "Third Rate Romance" is one of a bunch of great country-rock songs on the album.

(11,404 posts)with purely dreadful sound. It was just godawful. And the sheer misery endured by people that were really into - music!
It's still occasionally a problem - but by and large, much, much better.
