Thanks for sharing this. Ponty's work with Zappa are some of my all-time favorite performances

I’ve listened to this for years on the album Jean-Luc Ponty Experience with the George Duke Trio. I also love the many versions by the composer, Herbie Hancock (who wrote this tune in his early 20s).

This is such a great performance — super funky, with incredible solos by both Duke and Ponty, and I love how they incorporate some “outside” elements occasionally, but then always snap back to the groove and the chord structure of the tune. I’m so glad it was recorded and released for us all to enjoy.

Recorded live in 1969 and still sounds fresh!
