I give credit to 4 years of Latin, but that didn't come until middle age. I thought it was because of being a reader. What opened my eyes to the value of Latin was 2 words I ran across that I couldn't wrap my mind around. I knew the definition of them but they weren't my friends. After a while it dawned on me, the were Greek to me because they came directly from Greek.

I guess my point is, there is real value in studying Latin. I "remember" very little like I can decline to be in the present tense, but most of the rest has gone away. A friend of mine gave me some proverbs to play with that were fun. Here's one I remember.
vir prudens non in ventum mingit My translation: A prudent (wise) man does not piss in the wind.

in HS. I got good grades back then (almost 60 years ago). I never thought it was a class to remember but I find it still helps me a lot because so many English words have Latin roots. Congrats again and i wish you luck in future studies.

I took two years of Latin in high school (that's all they offered) and I can honestly say that learning Latin helped me in so many ways throughout my life. I can figure out what many words in other languages mean because of my years of Latin. It helps with English words too. Or medical terminology. Or botanical names of plants. I could go on.

I am so glad I took it.

It's a difficult language in some ways but I think you will find over his lifetime that it was very worth taking it.

Taking Latin as a freshman in high school, 1974, was one of my better decisions. It helped me immensely in nursing and lasted me all these years.

What year is he in?

BTW "quid musca" is a bad translation of my 1st year Latin teacher's favorite expresion when we exasperated him, "What the fly." I suspect he wanted to say something else with the same initials, WTF, eh? Anyway we would chant it all together when he would announce a pop test.
