"Bridge Over Troubled Waters" was number 1 and it's so powerful, I'll go with that.

(8,138 posts)You mean what was our favorite back then, right?
That was the first album I ever bought. First song I knew all the words to.
My favorite song now FROM 1970 is probably either BB King The Thrill is Gone or Creedence Run Through The Jungle.

(25,586 posts)"Suite" -- John Coltrane, from his posthumous release Transistion.
Fair warning, this is somewhat "out there."

(12,132 posts)they had another whole band with them. I didn't really have to guess who were the original members. All the non-originals were much younger than 2 of them. To their credit the kid they had singing sounded great and very Burton-like.
Also to their credit the show rightfully should have been cancelled but they performed it anyway. It was at Busch Gardens in Tampa, outdoor stage - furious thunderstorm rolled in right before showtime and completely drenched us for 45 minutes. We attendees withstood mother nature's onslaught and cheered when the sun peeked out from behind a cloud and a guy came on stage to announce that they only had about 15~20 minutes left of show time but that they were so humbled and grateful that we would stand in that soaked and muddy field for that long just to hear them play that there was no way they wouldn't give us everything they could and without any more talking they ripped through all their greatest hits with a passion that defied reality.
I had always liked them but that right there made me love them.

Great songs. Interesting to see which ones you still hear on oldies stations.

Instant Karma:
And since apparently I'm the only person who cares to mention country music in your threads, ....it's cool, I know most here don't care for it but I feel the need to represent my background.
First, my dear friend Johnny Cash: I mean, this highlights Kris Kristofferson's lyrical talent "the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad, so I had one more for dessert"....it may sound funny but damn that's poignant! How many of us have been there?
And then there's the gem that would define a career:
Coventina
(27,234 posts)I love "Sunday Morning, Coming Down." It most definitely defines a certain period of my life....
I'm not much of a country music fan (especially now), but this particular time period (late 60s-early 70s) is an exception!!

(111,530 posts)Some hit songs from my misspent youth are meeting a younger relative with really bad taste, "gawd, did I really like that thing? It's truly terrible!" This isn't one of them, it's one I still enjoy listening to.
Also there on my hit parade but with slightly dated lyrics:
