Valerian - Potential Movie Spoilers.

Valerian is a different kind of sci-fi movie. It has plenty of bang-up, high action scenes, only more ... cinematic. This would be a great pick for 3D if you're into that format. Beautiful scenery even in the darkest moments, which probably is due to the fact that it's inspired by a comic book of the same name. The movie does dawdle in some scenes, which could have been edited, but then, what's the fun in that? It seems like they know they are creating a new world for you to see and enjoy, so what's the hurry? So, more stroll than dawdle.

Great chemistry between the two protagonists. Valerian is the name of the young Major, and Laureline is his Sargent in arms. This is a perfect date night movie for the young geekie nerd that wants an experience he can share with his girl friend that prefers romance over sci-fi, since it is a mix of both.

The best way that I can set up the setting, without giving it all away, imagine the casualties caused by the heavy weapon exchange that you see on a Star Wars movie. This movie begins, where those movies pan away.

I didn't have any trouble following the jumps that eventually come together by the end, though I did hear someone else mention that they were confused in some parts. SPOILER -- There was only one section that left me scratching my head. When Laureline engages with the psychedelic jellyfish, which was supposed to give her a vision to help her find Valerian, who had fallen off the grid, she was told not to wear it on her head for more than one minute. She wore it for a minute and ten seconds, but we never find out what was the outcome of exceeding the time by ten seconds.

In sum, different kind of sci-fi movie. Go for the digital cgi eye-candy, if nothing else.

It is a visual treat, great sci-fi story, really interesting beginning.

The thing that got me, though - was how hard we laughed! Unexpectedly! The whole damn crowd - huge belly laughs!

That running banter grows on you, and finally delivers!

Cara Delevingne - as unspellable as it is unpronounceable - priceless!!!
