Need some good DU vibes here

Just had a (phone) interview, and I think it went really well.

However, the problem is that I am trying to make the transition to the next step up the ladder (for any who have ever worked on a campaign before, I'm trying to go from field organizer to field director) and I have never been a field director before. How would you phrase the thank you email to show that I have the ability to be a field director?

but has something to do with leadership, I guess, so slip something 'leaderly' in there.

Best of luck!

As a field organizer you had projects to work on so stress your leadership on those projects, your ability to troubleshoot and problem solve. Also might want to mention being able to multitask.

Best of luck!!!!

What are the characteristics you have seen in field directors you have worked with? Which of those characteristics do you possess or know you can develop? Project those positive characteristics in your email. Oh and IIRC, be short, polite (of course) and direct in your email, that is a request from a hiring manager. Good luck. Good vibes.

It was a pleasure speaking with you last night. From everything that I have heard about the race, it sounds like Anthony is the right guy to keep this seat blue come November.

I know that I have the skills and training necessary to succeed as a field director on your campaign (I have done one additional training with EMILY's List and attended several training webinars since I sent my resume). If you need any additional information from me please do not hesitate to contact me.

I look forward to speaking with you soon.

So that makes the email even more purposeful, if there was any question of whether or not you needed to send one. Very pleasant, amiable and professional. Good luck!

say something about how you enjoyed talking about it and like their ideas and enthusiastically look forward to working with them. Mention that you're ideas fit in very well with theirs. That you feel you will be a good fit with them. Or some such.

Emphasize teamwork and how important it is during elections. You know, stuff they want to hear.

Remember that doing the work for elections is all about selling something. Sell yourself as the perfect candidate for the job.
