Whenever my #2-son goes back to school I'm weepy for days. Isn't it nice when all your kids are home again, even for a few days, and you wake up in the middle of the night and KNOW they are safe and snug under your roof again? Sleep comes so much easier when they're home.

Hugs to you!!!

My oldest is about 1000 miles away, and we see each other once or twice a year; if we could afford the time and $$ to travel more often...

We've developed a routine. When it's time to say goodbye, he gives me a quick hug and goodbye and walks away, because he knows I don't want him to see me blubbering. The people around me...his brother, his nephew, his grandmother...know to stay away and leave me alone for a bit.

As a matter of fact, even typing this brings the tears.

I'm going to investigate taking a train; maybe that's less costly? Or a bus. Or something.

Quick hug and out the door is his style anyway.

Reading your post made me cry too.

of the times I visited my folks on leave.

I don't think I ever looked back after that last hug in the airport, but I remember being proud that I made them proud.

Dammit.
