1. Bella, ciao.

13. Roger Hodgson -of Supertramp
Even in the Quietest Moments... (1977)
Fool's Overture [Churchill's famous speech] "We shall go on 'til the end, we shall fight on the seas and oceans. We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall never surrender." History recalls how great the fall can be While everybody's sleeping The boats put out to sea Borne on the wings of time It seemed the answers were so easy to find "Too late," the prophets cry The island's sinking, let's take to the sky Called the man a fool Stripped him of his pride Everyone was laughing Up until the day he died Oh, though the wound went deep Still he's calling us out of our sleep My friends, we're not alone He waits in silence to lead us all home So you tell me that you find it hard to grow Well I know, I know, I know And you tell me that you've many seeds to sow Well I know, I know, I know [Distant choir sings William Blake's 'Jerusalem'] "And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England's mountains green: And was the holy Lamb of God, On England's pleasant pastures seen!" Dreamer... Can you hear what I'm saying? Can you see the parts that I'm playing? Holy Man, Rocker Man, come on Queenie, Joker Man, Spider Man, Blue Eyed Meanie So you found your solution What will be your last contribution? Live it up, rip it up, why so lazy? Give it out, dish it out, let's go crazy, yeah |

79. I love Muse-they have many songs that speak to the struggles we face in life against power, evil,
greed, and corruption.
Muse-"Big Freeze" Big Freeze Healed, or are you still just reeling? Are you fine? Have you found A way to escape? Are you there, just because I need you? Can we hole up, a big freeze Is headind our way? We are on a hiding to nowhere We still hope, but our dreams Are not the same And I, I lost before I started I'm collapsing in stellar clouds of gas Hear me What words just can't convey Feel me Don't let the sun in your heart decay Fight, or will you show me mercy? We've expelled, the goodness From our hearts Are you here, just to prove you're winning? Can we hole up, and ride out this electrical storm? We destroyed something beautiful We have faith, but our truths Are not the same Don't give up, don't let the magic leave us Stop the loneliest force becoming King of the universe Hear me What words just can't convey Feel me Don't you let the sun in your heat decay Don't give up, don't let the magic leave us We're collapsing in stellar clouds of gas Hear me What words just can't convey Feel me I won't let the sun in your heart decay Written by Matthew James Bellamy • Copyright © Warner/Chappell Music, Inc |

Kinda like a dog with seven pupils in its eye Kinda like a madness that refuses to subside Kinda like everything you want just within your grasp Kinda like how a banshee-wail dances on a living heart (Chorus) I'm gonna stand at the top of the world and challenge the heavens Gonna bring you god Gonna bring you god In the palm of the left hand black Gonna bring you god Kinda like when the sun goes down and darkness makes its climb Kinda like all your muscle tissue starting to unwind Kinda like, if you brave the hate feed it to the left hand black How I know I can take their power send it back at triple times the strength (Chorus) How I see the battle and the bleeding human race How I miss the taste of it its sweet and warm embrace How I see the world's demise its last and final gasp How I see reality explode into another kind of life |

...and did a couple of festival shows with Doyle and Jerry Caiafa (other original Misfits), but another ~real~ album under the DANZIG masthead could be a while in coming.
At least the band lineup has stabilized... there for a while (mid 90's-2008), it was like musical chairs. |

26. Clampdown by the Clash
No video because I'm technologically impaired.
"Clampdown" Hey, hey! Ooh! The kingdom is ransacked the jewels all taken back and the chopper descends they're hidden in the back with a message on a half-baked tape with the spool going round saying I'm back here in this place and I could cry and there's smoke you could click on What are we gonna do now? Taking off his turban, they said, is this man a Jew? 'Cause they're working for the clampdown They put up a poster saying we earn more than you! When we're working for the clampdown We will teach our twisted speech To the young believers We will train our blue-eyed men To be young believers The judge said five to ten, but I say double that again I'm not working for the clampdown No man born with a living soul Can be working for the clampdown Kick over the wall 'cause government's to fall How can you refuse it? Let fury have the hour, anger can be power D'you know that you can use it? The voices in your head are calling Stop wasting your time, there's nothing coming Only a fool would think someone could save you The men at the factory are old and cunning You don't owe nothing, so boy get running It's the best years of your life they want to steal You grow up and you calm down You're working for the clampdown You start wearing the blue and brown You're working for the clampdown So you got someone to boss around It makes you feel big now You drift until you brutalize You made your first kill now In these days of evil presidentes Working for the clampdown But lately one or two has fully paid their due For working for the clampdown Ha! Gitalong! Gitalong! Working for the clampdown Ha! Gitalong! Gitalong! Working for the clampdown Yeah I'm working hard in Harrisburg Working hard in Petersburg Working for the clampdown Working for the clampdown Ha! Gitalong! Gitalong Begging to be melted down Gitalong, gitalong (Work) (Work) (Work) And I've given away no secrets - ha! (Work) (Work) (More work) (More work) (Work) (Work) (Work) (Work) Who's barmy now? |

37. "The Walls Came Down" (1983) -- The Call
33-year-old song that could have been written just this morning.
Well they blew the horns And the walls came down They'd all been warned And the walls came down They stood there laughing They're not laughing anymore The walls came down Sanctuary fades Congregation splits Nightly military raids The congregation splits It's a song of assassins Ringing in your ears We got terrorist thinking Playing on fears Well they blew the horns And the walls came down They'd all been warned But the walls came down I don't think there are any Russians And there ain't no Yanks Just corporate criminals Playing with tanks |

Count your blessings, walk the line Don't move too fast or fall behind There are rules you must obey They get re-written by the day Don't do this - don't say that Your every move is logged and tracked By the all oppressive eye Spy satellites in friendly skies The new american century Has only just begun No one exempt from the tragedy Counterattack start pushing back Fight the power that chokes your speech Fight the power that makes you bleed Fight the power that propogates lies To keep you weak Keep you in line No one dares to say a word Our panic drives all human herds In the land where cash is king Our silence bought and sold for free The future's banging on our door When real I.D. will be the law Love thy neighbor and turn him in It's call patriotism The world is watching in disbelief Chanting shame on you How can you stand by so quietly Letting them rape your liberties Fight the power that chokes your speech Fight the power that makes you bleed Fight the power that propogates lies To keep you weak Keep you in line Fight the power that reigns you in Divides and conquers Defines your sin Fight the power for one and all Before the power swallows us whole BRIDGE: Those who cannot learn from history Are doomed to repeat it! You can't be bothered or concerned You see no reason for alarm Prejudice, religion hate Usher in new mandate Absolute and resolved One nation under one god Lack of interest has its price As we're stripped of all our rights |

44. Fight Fight Fight by the Cure
Sometimes there's nothing to feel
Sometimes there's nothing to hold Sometimes there's no time to run away Sometimes you just feel so old The times it hurts when you cry The times it hurts just to breathe And then it all seems like there's no one left And all you want is to sleep Fight fight fight Just push it away Fight fight fight Just push until it breaks Fight fight fight Don't cry at the pain Fight fight fight Or watch yourself burn again Fight fight fight Don't howl like a dog Fight fight Just fill up the sky Fight fight fight Fight til you drop Fight fight fight And never never never stop Fight fight fight Fight fight fight So when the hurting starts And when the nightmares begin Remember you can fill up the sky You don't have to give in You don't have to give in Never give in Never give in Never give in |

60. Two Hangmen - Mason Proffit
" He talked to all the people from his scaffold in the square
He told them of the things he found but they didn't seem to care He said the laws were obsolete, a change they should demand, But the people only walked away, he couldn't understand The Marshall's name was Uncle Sam, he said he'd right this wrong He'd make the hangman shut his mouth if it took him all year long He finally arrested Freak, and then he sent for me To hang a fellow hangman from a fellow hangman's tree It didn't take them long to try him in their court of law He was guilty then of thinkin', a crime much worse than all They sentenced him to die so his seed of thought can't spread And infect the little children, that's what the law had said So the hangin' day came 'round, and he walked up to the noose I pulled the lever, but before he fell I cut him loose They called it all conspiracy, and that I had to die So to close our mouths and kill our minds they hung us side by side….. And now we're two hangmen hangin' from a tree That don't bother me at all……. |

62. The Partisan
By Leonard Cohen.
My favorite versions are by Joan Baez And by Leslie Fish with somebody named Garcia Aritzmendi. I heard that at an SCA event, they sang the English parts together, the bit that is usually in French or Greek, was sung by Aritzmendi in Euskara. A song called IIRC 'N Kommando Gesang by somebody I forget. It's about a small farmer fighting with the Boer Commandos against the British. I remember these bits. "The cold queen of England wants gold and bright diamonds, She's sending her redcoats to plunder and kill. She'll find that dear bought are the gems of the Transvaal, Where Boer commandos haunt every hill." "My wife and three children were caught by the English. Behind the barbed wire they sickened and died. But soon we sweep down like a fire from the highveld, And burn the death camps with the English inside." "I sleep with a Mauser and rise before cockcrow, And go on commando my neighbors and me. We'll live as we can and we'll fight as we're able, Till England's defeated and the Transvaal is free." Wolf |

69. There are multiple versions of Mr Tangerine Man
One version that was posted as a video by a DUer last month starts out:
Hey Mr Tangerine Man What's that on your head? Is it alive or is it dead? Do you keep it on in bed? How often is it fed? (You can get to it by a DU site search) Also, there's my version posted back in July "Dylan's song lyrics tweaked in honor of Donald J. Trump" http://www.democraticunderground.com/1018884243 and finally, if you do a Google search, there's a great version from last June |

I think these lyrics in particular seem appropriate now:
"I ain't equipment, I ain't automatic You won't find me just staying static Don't you give me any orders For people like me There is no order Bet you thought you had it all worked out Bet you thought you knew what I was about Bet you thought you'd solved all your problems But - YOU - are the problem!" |

One of the many old union songs that became suddenly relevant again during WI uprising - now more than ever! They did a nice job with the video too - people fought (and died) for things we are coming back to having to fight for again.
