Georgia man loses his leg after shooting lawnmower packed with explosive

The Florida is creeping north

"A 32-year-old Georgia man lost his leg below the knee after trying to blow up his lawnmower by shooting at it, earning him a rebuke from local authorities, Online Athens reported.

“Yes, it is legal and no, we can’t make people stop doing it,” the Walton County Sheriff’s Department said on its Facebook page. “But why folks, just why?”

Deputies were called to a rural area near David Thomas Presley’s home in Monroe on Sunday after the incident. Presley was with a group of friends when he shot the lawnmower, which was packed with three pounds of an explosive sold under the name Tannerite.

It is a patented combination of ammonium nitrate and aluminium powder that is supplied as two separate powders that are mixed and shaken to produce an explosive,” local fire Battalion Chief Craig League told the Loganville Local News."

As good a reason as any for instituting a few new laws. Will nitwits continue to do this if there's a law against it? Possibly, even probably. Will law enforcement have some recourse for the next David Thomas Presley if there's a law against it? Oh yeah. As it is, if some dumbass in Monroe, Georgia sets up his own Presley Shooting Thingamabob, and dumbass's neighbor calls 911, the authorities can only shrug and hope dumbass doesn't kill anyone with the inevitable explosion. Well, they can "rebuke" him afterwards. Pass a law, and the cops can come out before dumbass blows his leg off (and causes whatever other collateral damage that may result).

We have laws about driving on the right side of the street. Everybody knows that's where you're supposed to drive, but we have the law on the books anyway. The law enables the police to intervene in a dangerous situation before someone gets hurt or killed. There apparently needs to be a similar law against packing your lawnmower with explosives and squeezing off a round or two.

To get to the Other Side

And that explosive is mixed like a James Bond martini: it's shaken, not stirred.

It didn't have a warning label saying "Packing the lawn mower with explosives and then shooting it may cause serious bodily injury or death".

j/k!
