(65,031 posts)Practically ever major festival act has bands that use a B-3 or the Hammond branded electronic version that is indistinguishable from an original B-3. (And anybody who says they can tell, hasn't played one. It even feels like an old wooden key Hammond. Even the H series didn't have wooden keys and those came out in the mid-60's!)
Truly, i see them all the time. That being said, when i played (or still do at jam nights), my B-3 sound is awfully good because i've programmed in a little grit particular in the low mid which is where the Leslie cabinets tended to overdrive, and i've toggled the Leslie speed to posttouch pressure. Plus, if i hit the sustain pedal, it shuts off the Leslie effect completely. So i can do static, slow and fast without ever taking my hands off the keys. It's an 88 key board, so i have the first 2 octaves set for one sound in a normal register, and the rest as if it were the upper manual. Then, i have the mod wheel set to shift the tone to a bigger tone so it sounds like moving the drawbars.
Not perfect, but pretty cool for a knock-off.

(65,031 posts)Pretty cool. It's like MTV was originally, but very few videos. Almost 100% live stuff. Some pretty esoteric stuff, too.
