You're Rick (or somebody else there) and your son Carl just shot walker-Shane in the head to end last episode.
A horde of walkers is coming your way, drawn by the gun shot.
You have maybe a 5-10-15 minute head start.
What do you do?
Do you hide everybody in the house & hope to wait it out? Do you take what you have on you and leave ASAP in the R/V and in the other cars? Something else?
This scenario was NOT in the comics, so I have no idea what is going to happen.
More info on the last episode is in my post from Sunday here:

(49,445 posts)Food and water, too. Draw the ladder up behind you.
Break out the .22 and start popping skulls at close range.
Rinse and repeat.
They can't climb up to get you, and they won't retreat. So shoot'em re-dead in the yard. Once the yard is empty, clear the house, burn the bodies, roast some marshmallows, have some hot victory sex.

(56,829 posts)a few episodes ago, they mentioned they were running low in ammo - which is why Rick stabbed those walkers with a knife.

(36,286 posts)disbelief for the sake of a good story, but some things are just too over the top!

(102,378 posts)I keep trying to figure out why they all panic at beings that can barely walk...
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)yes, you can outrun them, but the walkers on the show move at a moderately fast lunging walk and don't get tired.
So, unless you're prepared to run a marathon, you're going to tire a lot sooner than the walkers/zombies.

(56,829 posts)The group encountered a whole host of stranded cars on the highway - I assume they can just go there & siphon off gas when needed. Plus, Hershel has a windmill on his farm - maybe he has other alternate energy sources (biofuels)?
The farm also has cows on it, which I assume they use for meats. Plus, I'm guessing chickens and veggies are there as well.

(54,445 posts)Did someone resurrect Jerry Garcia, or is this some TV show in the States I haven't heard about?
(Which, if it came out after 1990, is practically all of them).
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)that has generally been well reviewed here in the States.
It's based on a long running graphic novel series The Walking Dead.

This coming Sunday is the conclusion to Season 2. The last 4 episodes have been very intense, and next week looks to top them all.

(54,445 posts)But I don't even know what AMC is! I've been away too long, I think........
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)Like HBO or Showtime, though AMC is not "premium" cable like those two. AMC's most famous series is the highly acclaimed show "Mad Men" - they also have "Breaking Bad"

(9,901 posts)They had time to prepare. During that time I would have taken a clue from Darrel and found silent weapons like compound bows, and cross bows. I would have manufactured and stockpiled as many arrows and bolts possible. I would have looked for a gunsmith shop or machine shop and produced as many small caliber silencers as possible. Weapons and ammunition would be stockpiled on "high ground". The lower floor of the main house and the barn would be reinforced
When a swarm threatened, I would have people man overlooks and quietly snipe walkers with either bows or silenced weapons to down the immediate threats, and do it as silently as possible to keep from attracting more walkers,or at least slow the rate of walkers drawn to the conflict.

Looks like Shane made his 'suicide' gambit at just the right.
All of you Shane haters can just well... bite me!
Go down the list and see if Rick has done just as many bad, stupid, or morally wrong things.
That's why I like the show, it's literally and metaphorically has an existentialist philosophy behind it.

(56,829 posts)They should have started securing the house sooner - however, I'm not sure Hershel would have allowed it sooner, either.

(7,947 posts)Without knowing how many walkers are coming, you'd have to be sure you had enough ammo for a decent attack on the farm if you're staying. If you know you don't have enough bullets though, you have to get out. Get what you can carry, and figure out the rest when you cross that bridge.
If you're staying, you get the food and extra guns and bullets to at least the 2nd floor. You get a better view of what's coming at you, and if the walkers get in the house, then everything important is somewhat safe. The walkers have to walk up the stairs to get you, so you shoot a few, create a bottleneck, and give yourself some time.
