...I can't believe it, but I'm kind of feeling a sense of loss. Finishing my degree has been one of the hardest things I've ever done, largely due to the fact that I've had to work full time while doing it. It has been downright painful for my wife and I at times. We've had to sacrifice a great deal of our time together and with family over the past few years so I could get my school work done. I'm overworked and almost completely burnt out.
Yet, as I was going over my online classes this morning and making sure I had everything done, I had that feeling like I was losing something.
I'm completely done with my two online classes now. I have a speech class up at campus that I have to give one more speech and write one more essay for. The speech is due on Thursday and the paper is due by next Monday. That's all I have left to do in my college career.
Don't get me wrong. I will be elated when I have that degree in my hands. However, despite how difficult and painful at times this has been, strangely, a part of me is going to miss it.

So, what degree will you have?

(9,900 posts)You might miss some things like the struggle, drawing from that well of inner strength you may have wondered had gone dry, but I doubt if missing the sleep will be one of them.
How soon do you think it will be until you step out of a cab, and into an office?

(10,418 posts)I could be out of the truck by the end of the year, but it could also take several months. I had one job lead, but it fizzled out on me.
I think the best course of action to take initially is to see if my current employer has a position I can upgrade to. I will do that when I'm done with classes. If that doesn't work out it's back to square one. The prospect is scary, but also kind of exciting.

(72,790 posts)I graduated in 2002, and I still miss it. I liked going to classes and being a college student. They were good days.

(14,881 posts)It's been a large part of your life for some time now. Reaching a major goal always has a letdown afterwards.

(28,394 posts)I know what you mean, Tobin. You get used to being all-engrossed in something and then you have to find something new to fill the gap. It's natural to feel that way during transitions.
You have accomplished so much! Bask in your new-found time. Relax, enjoy your family and the holidays!
