The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThey are advertising a hockey network in Canada. Where you can spend the whole week
watching ever hockey game played. I'm thinking the wives might just take issue with this. Is this what the world is coming to? People sitting in front of some screen all day, every day.... who am I to talk really.

And unless you're German and capitalize ALL your nouns, "Penis" is a little bit grandeur-delusional, innit?

(118,778 posts)those star atheletes like Gretzky. And why I don't watch anymore has to do with me having post traumatic stress disorder I think. I'm on meds for that. My brain has changed a lot in the last 16 years, hell 24 years. I've forgotten the economics I studied in University (I'm 46) and replaced that with a love of Democratic politics. Recently I've become afraid of driving (I almost can't sit in the front seat of the car when it is moving and don't drive). I use to love watching risky sports like figure skaing or horse jumping. Now I skip that and cannot participate in adrenaline type sports or amusement. I hardly watch any tv execpt for news oriented shows. I'm not as empathetic and nurturing as I used to be. And much more. I'm growing in many ways so it is not all a bad thing. But the changes are many.

(35,015 posts)I understand what you're saying though, and that you can't watch anymore. My favorte player was Lemieux and now, with the young guys, I love Crosby but he's out with due to recurrng concussion symptoms. The best player in the league. I don't think we've fully understood the problems contact sports cause for the athletes.
I wish you all the best, and that you fnd a way to overcome your difficulties.

(8,646 posts)I used to be severely obsessed with hockey growing up. Hard not to be growing up in Edmonton during the Gretzky years. I wasn't allowed to play organized hockey (my parents didn't want to 'waste money' on hockey for a girl) but I managed to go to my brother's practices and showed up at the outdoor rink an awful lot to play shinny with the guys.
I now have to settle for HNIC and the odd Oilers game when I happen to get free tickets. Don't have as much time to follow every game, but enjoy watching as much as I can, when I can.
