I'm having a colonoscopy done tomorrow, so prep today.

This is different from the last time I did it. The last time I had to drink a gallon of this stuff that tasted like your car could run on it. The flavor packets were a joke.

This time, they gave me 12 Dulcolax tablets to take- 6 at noon and 6 at 3pm. Nothing happened after I took the first 6 and nothing was happening after I took the second 6, either. At about 4:30 I called the nurse at the hospital to ask if I was doing things right. I got their machine and left a message. Almost as soon as I hung up the phone I was running for the bathroom.

I think all is going well now. I have two bottles of magnesium citrate in the fridge just in case I need a little extra. Party on.

Some people think the worst part of having a colonoscopy is the procedure itself. That really isn't the, ahem, shitty part. They put you out for that. One minute you're laying there on the table, then seemingly the next you're in recovery ripping a world record fart.

The bad part is the day before when you have to do the prep. You can't have anything to eat all day, there's a good chance you'll have to drink a lot something that will make you want to vomit, and you're on the shitter about 20 times. Don't even think about going anywhere once you start that prep.

Having plenty of TP in the house at all times is one of my deals. I'll be damned if I get in there and have to use my socks.

It wasn't on my bowel, but my uterus.

My ob/gyn had me do the prep work to get all cleaned out though, because she said she didn't want an active bowel dancing around while she did delicate uterine surgery nearby.

I feel your pain!!!!

It beats the hell out of colon cancer. It's definitely worth doing if only for the peace of mind.

I had an aunt who died of colon cancer when she was 53. I'm 41 and a little young to be a colonoscopy patient, but a few years back I was having stomach problems that turned out to be irritable bowel syndrome. They did a colonoscopy to rule out any other source of the problem and found a few polyps in there. If I hadn't gone in there for that first colonoscopy, I might have turned out like my aunt.

Polyps take 10-15 years to become cancer, so your aunt may have started them in her early 40s - this is why people who have a 1st degree relative (parent or sibling) who had colon cancer, should get screened well before the relative had it. For 2nd-degree relative as you aunt, is is not as critical - but you are at higher risk, and it is something to bring up GP.

...for sore Butt cheeks...I did mine a couple of months ago, and the prep is much worst than the procedure...
the Dr even commented that it was one of the best preps he'd ever seen...I ate very lightly a couple of days prior,no meats and lots of water...nothing was found...they even send you home with pics

Incidence of colon cancer among adults aged at least 50 years dropped 30% in the past decade, with the largest decrease observed in those older than 65 years, according to study results.

A 30% drop in 10 years is HUGE!

No meal feels as good as the one you can eat when you get out of there!

I only had to drink 64 ounces. At first I thought that was a gallon, then realized by looking on the internet it was half a gallon. Math was not my strong suit. I used half the powder then panicked that my solution was only at half strength. I realized this halfway through so the second half was at double strength.

The hard part for me was scheduling it in the afternoon. I recommend getting it over with first thing in the morning rather than having a half day where you can't eat and all you have to look forward to is a colonoscopy. Though like most people say, it itself, it was not bad.
