(12,132 posts)I was with ya on all the other foods but I just don't like sweet potatoes. IF you get to broccoli you can count me out on that too.

(12,158 posts)for Mr. froggy and me.
We bake sweet potatoes (we prefer yams) until they are almost done, and then add a can of chopped pineapple in its own juice and some walnut halves and finish baking till done.
Mr. froggy has type II diabetes, so we don't add sugar.

(50,566 posts)Lord, how I've tried. I like to healthy food and super foods and I'd love to swap out real potatoes for these.
But I want my potatoes to be savory. I hate that sweet, cloying taste. I just can't stand 'em. Even when I tried to make a sweet potato soup and cover up the sweetness with lots of onions and garlic it still had that sickeningly sweet taste.
I have failed.

(15,774 posts)try as a might, cilantro tastes like soap dish water-and try getting Mexican food with out a ton of it covering the plate. Perhaps the flavor of sweet potatoes just doesn't translate well in your palate.

(50,566 posts)There has been some research about it and they think it is linked to a specific gene:
A new study seeking to better understand why some people have such a strong aversion to cilantro has identified two genetic variants linked to perception of the herb, the most common of which is a gene involved in sensing smells.
Nature reports that a genetic survey of nearly 30,000 people, led by Nicholas Eriksson at the consumer genetics firm 23andMe, asked participants whether or not cilantro tasted like soap and whether or not they liked it. The strongest-linked variant is traced to a cluster of olfactory-receptor genes that influence smell. One of those genes is OR6A2, which is very sensitive to the aldehyde chemicals that give cilantro its distinctive flavor.
Eriksson says that nearly half of all Europeans have two copies of this variant, and of those people, 15 percent reported a soapy taste. In contrast, 13 percent of Europeans had no copies, and 11.5 percent of this group said cilantro tasted like soap.

(39,343 posts)I don't want my veggies tasting like dessert with cinnamon and sugar.
The sweet potato lobby are the same ones who pushed carrot cake back in the 80's. Eat your veggies then eat a proper dessert.
