It was one of those moments you could see things in slow motion but you couldn't do anything about it ("Nooooooooo...!!" . It had just turned dark and he wanted out but as soon as I opened the door he shot out like he does after a squirrell on the deck or nearby tree-- but it was DARK, what could he be aft-- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-- a skunk in the yard and he spun around before dashing under the deck. The dog ran to the opposite part of the yard to roll around and really work it into his fur.
Grabbed him and dragged him to the garage and hosed him down/scrubbed him with stinkydog shampoo. Now he's sulking on his bed and neither of us is happy.
Do they ever learn to NOT bother skunks?
(not my pup below but it catches his expression at the moment of dousing)

(1,136 posts)I'm so, so sorry. That has got to be the worst thing. Wet dog smell mixed with skunk smell mixed with doggie shampoo. I hope your stinky dog shampoo worked!

(22,000 posts)if you are going to play with the skunks, you are going to pay a price. I've been around a dog after it was skunked, it is no picnic trying to get the smell out.
