I was already into Judas Priest and Iron Maiden but then one day a buddy showed up at the house with this new album "Melissa" by Mercyful Fate and we just had never heard anything like that before and that's what got me looking at more extreme metal.

Seeing King Diamond on the Abigail tour was a concert highlight of my life.

along with folks like Alice Cooper and Rob Halford he's retired in Phoenix now.

I saw him, along with some original band members, perform with Metallica in 2011. They did a combined set of Mercyful Fate.

I saw him interviewed in The Evolution of Metal and knew it was somewhere in the southwest.

This year I think even. He had a heart attack a while back but was performing and recording steadily up until then. He's just now getting back to it. He's had a home in Dallas for at least a few years, maybe more - I know he lived there before his heart attack.

He is scheduled to play Wacken next year.
