Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsAbout 2 hours ago, one of the neighbor's kids knocked on my door
He asked me if I needed my lawn mowed. And yes, that grass sure was shaggy! And, as I am still on crutches, there is no way I'm going to mow it. So I asked him, "How much?" By this time, his little brother had joined him on my porch. His answer was, "$20 ?". I said, "It's a big yard, how about $25 ?". I always bargain, you see. I also offered to let them use my mower in addition to theirs, so that it would take less time. They were then joined by a third young neighbor with a weedeater. One hour later, my grass looks great! And I handed them $30, so it was easy to split up.....
School starts on Monday, I think that these kids now have school supplies for the coming year.

(102,580 posts)I don't think I'm "locked in the 50s", but I surely do appreciate when teens show initiative and try to earn the money they spend.
Good for you for making it possible and treating them fairly.

(3,416 posts)We live out here in the Texas outback, not many jobs to be had out here. In our little town of 1600 people out here on the prairie, we have no resources other than the jobs for our adult population. I, myself, commute 50 miles each way to my job every day, to live in a town with no crime, and a real sense of community. If I can help them out, so much the better.

(1,805 posts)Not to be nosy, Trailrider151, but do you have an injury or arthritis or? If you don't feel like answering, no big deal. My back is starting to reflect it's age; I'm so fortunate that my husband is still super active.
Good for you, after listening to many of the excellent speeches from DC today, I once again realize how these small acts of kindness from a person like you can make all the difference.

Probably would have done it for $15 if you'd chiseled them down.
I'm partially disabled myself, and I pay well for those that help.
I provide snacks, juices, make them take breaks (paid) -
Even cook lunch (my own food) for them if it is a full day.
And they come back, and work their buns off.
It pays back to be nice to people.
As you may well know.
AND IT FEELS GOOD!

(7,720 posts)neighbors' 11 year old son asked my dad if he could mow their lawn. My dad said sure, and the kid used my father's lawn mower. A few days later he asked to borrow the lawn mower and my dad let him. Pretty soon this kid was mowing my parents' lawn and several others using my dad's lawn mower and gas. My dad didn't care. He made a deal so the kid mowed his lawn for free and my dad still let him use the lawn mower and gas for his business enterprise.
Skip ahead...the now 26 year old who borrowed my dad's lawn mower has his own small engine repair shop and has two employees.

(10,953 posts)You usually file the paperwork through your HR Dept. There is a federal form that you have your doctor fill out. If you have not gotten the form yet, I have attached a link to the form.

(3,416 posts)I'm going back to work tomorrow, and I'll see if our HR person needs this. I work for a small company (less than 50 employees combined in our two offices), and they may not give me any hassle about my absence. We'll see.
