Movies you would like them to remake

Since that's all Hollywood wants to do now...

Mine:
1. The Untouchables. I thought the movie was good...then I read the book Eliot Ness wrote and there are some things in there that would be fun in a movie.

2. Patton, starring Lee Ermey and using the kind of language Patton really used. In Patton's address to the troops he did not use the word fornicating.

3. The Great Escape without the Steve McQueen character Captain Hilts. It's understandable why he was there - higher box office. He didn't add much to the film because the little prima donna didn't want to do anything.

4. A new Heavy Metal movie centered around Ranxerox, the robot made out of copier parts.

and...

5. An animated Starship Troopers. In animation you can do powered armor, you can do a drop the way Heinlein wrote it, you can give cap troopers weapons that will kill bugs...most people would think that if trying to kill bugs with rifles on Klendathu got 125,000 guys killed they'd send them to the outlying systems with howitzers, but noooooo...

With all of the political stuff in it that was left out of the first one.

and liked the film a lot. He said he recognized the McQueen character as a guy they called "Savage" who was a big risk taker, always tunneling under the wire on his own, and getting "cooler" time.

In the special features for the film, they explained that Steve McQueen wanted to play the hero without doing anything heroic. Result: McQueen got top billing in what felt like a Richard Attenborough/James Garner movie.

My first thought was Brad Pitt as Hilts, Michael Fassbender as Big X, Christoph Walz as Danny and Johnny Depp as Henley, but then you're looking at Inglouriois Basterds II.

and I would love to see the TV Series Sky King re done.

I understand that Have Gun, Will Travel is in the early stages of being brought back.

5. Probably too soon but I'd love it if they'd remake The Last Airbender and do it right this time.

The source material there is so rich and there's the capacity for a fantastic film...but they made a wreck of it the first time.

Drown M Night Shyamalin (sp?) in a mill pond so he never directs again. This is the guy that fucked up a Will Smith movie, a feat I didn't know you could do.

A remake of a cult classic...They Live-better technology and special effects would improve the movie. Starring roles would go to

Dwyane Johnson as John Nada
Laurence Fishburn as Frank Armitage
Scarlett Johansson as Holly Thompson

I didn't really watch it, but it was done well for the time it was made.

As for things I wanted remade.

I can't think of any at the moment.

I just think some of the current remakes were not done well.

...no--really. In 1945, one could imagine an America in which Potter and Pottersville *could* be checked, defeated, somehow. Could anyone imagine it being done today? I dunno, but I'd like to see someone, anyone, try. I guess Spielberg would be the logical choice as director, since he still has vestiges of idealism. And for George Bailey...? In the 21st century? Tom Hanks is a little old...apart from him, I haven't the foggiest goddam idea...
