World Heritage Site - Who am I?

I was founded by the Spaniards in the 16th century. By now, I am the most populous city in the Caribbean region and I am not only famous for cigars and rum. In 1982 I was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and I am noted for my history, architecture, culture, dancing and music. My nickname is “Ciudad de las Columnas” (the City of Columns), referring to my colonial past and my grand architecture. In 1848, I became the third city in the world installing gas streetlights. The most convenient ways for tourists of getting around in my streets is taking a ride in one of the old American Chevys or Russian Ladas which are frequently used as taxis.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
