(46,705 posts)The first, that a study claims that if you are sedentary for three hours a day, cut off two years of your life.
Since I sit for at least three hours a day as I work on the laptop (which includes dropping into DU), it means that DU is bad for my health.
So, yes, it must be an addiction.

(250 posts)to fit housework in around DU, therefore I do have to
get off my Butt.....ocassionally, oh and I do have to
run up the stairs to use the bathroom alot, so that kinda helps

It's a safe addiction. [img]

(250 posts)I dont think my chair could take me sitting on it for 8 years though,
perhaps I should stay in bed with a Laptop

I do miss seeing different places but I'm happy to be sleeping in my own bed [img][/img] with or without my Laptop. My computer chair is the same one I've had since getting my first pc 11 years ago.

(4,056 posts)Where in England are you? I spent 5 years in London and the Home Counties when it was actually cheap to live there. (Hint: Harold Wilson was PM when I first moved there!)
And as for DU, I've been here for ten years, and during the Dark Ages of W it was my pillar of sanity. People get down on GD, but it's not so bad. Loungers Rawk, tho!

(250 posts)I remember Harold too Ive lived down south then moved up to Newcastle.
Its too cold, I might move back again

(66,335 posts)I've been here for over eleven years. I have no intention of ever leaving for good. This place has become my family. And it's not as if I'm lacking for family IRL. I have a large extended family I frequently see for dinners, barbecues, and holidays.
But DU saw me through the awful B*sh years, especially since many of my extended family above are Repubs.
So here I have my liberal, Democratic, loving, extended, on-line family, with whom I celebrate, mourn, laugh, cry, joke, and flirt.
When my father died in May, 2009, my announcement thread in the Lounge eventually ran to over a hundred replies. Everyone was warm, sympathetic, and consoling. It was wonderful.
I know you'll love it here, silentwarrior. So many of us do...

(250 posts)My stepfather died the same year, in July. I am sorry for your loss.
To be honest, I found DU rather scary at first. Everyone here knows what to say to each other.
And I couldnt hold a political argument to save my life
Coming on here has helped to distract me from some personal problems and I can relate sometimes
to other posters on here.

(66,335 posts)Most people here are very warm and accepting. Say what's on your mind. It's easy to make friends here. In order to make enemies, you almost have to be trying.
I mostly hang out here in the Lounge, which is a good place to come to when you want to have non-political discussions.
