We've done this before, of course, but since tomorrow (Oct. 5) is the 50th anniversary of the release of the first film, Dr. No, we're doing one final time.
We're keeping it to the official Eon produced films, so no Barry Nelson, David Niven or Woody Allen...

I actually watched that movie, and STILL have no idea what it was about!

It was almost certainly a "rent" movie for him.

(27,677 posts)1. Daniel Craig (the first truly multidimensional Bond, closest to the novels)
2. Sean Connery (defined the role but edged out by Craig, IMO)
3. Pierce Brosnan (decent performances marred by mugging and smirking)
4. Timothy Dalton (good actor but not enough machismo for a "serious" Bond)
5. George Lazenby (just one film and not that memorable)
6. Roger Moore (a silly interpretation with the exception of FYEO)

(4,572 posts)Daniel Craig has been the most human of the Bonds. You summed him up in the perfect word: multidimensional. There's something amazingly complex about how Craig's bond was written and performed.
My mother can't stand Bond for the most part, but she'll watch Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace repeatedly. She likes them that much. Then again, we'll also sit down and throw in the Bourne Trilogy for kicks, too.
Can't wait for Skyfall.

(4,572 posts)He's the first actor they've brought into Bond that really pushes past the traditional Bond: you know...the womanizing, boozing, always-with-a-quip-in-any-situation spy.
Then again, he has Dame Judi Dench as his boss, and she's fantastic.
I do recall that in the original book for Casino Royale, it ends on Bond's "Job's done..." quote. They naturally added M's line prodding Bond to look further into Vesper's actions and realize she did everything for him at the end, but was trapped in a situation with no exit.
Stellar writing. Stellar acting.
And it shocked the crap outta me to hear Bond tell Vesper he loved her.
Okay, I've rambled enough.

in that order.
Connery's characterization is soooo dated but he was so good in that role. Dalton always embodied the Bond I'd visualized reading the books. Craig is excellent and Brosnan was very good. We shall not speak of Roger Moore.
