Has anyone else ever in a dream asked a deceased loved one what is it like?

I mean, what is it like to be dead?

Reason I ask is a few months ago I had such a dream and I asked the deceased person, What was it like? He said, „different. „
Then I woke up (darn it) and after that, I tried to get back into the dream, but I couldn’t.

Your experience?

I just had a dream a couple of nights ago which included several diseased members. In the dream my brother and his first wife were visiting and I was surprised how quickly he’d arrive. As I was coming awake and still retained some of the dream I realized I shouldn’t have been surprised how quickly he’d gotten there. I should have been surprised he was alive

He gave me the warmest, most comforting and loving hug that assured me he was ok. But, we didn't speak. I just felt so comforted and felt so much better.

...in a scuba diving adventure gone wrong, in 1978, when he was only 23. Sometime after that, I did dream about him, and in that dream, he told me that he was OK. It was a very brief dream, and I don't recall specifically asking him what it was like, but I do remember his reassurance that he was OK.

I also don't remember exactly when I had this dream. It was not immediately after, but probably within 2-5 years. I did tell my mother about it, and she was somewhat envious and said she wished she would have a dream about him.

My dad died in 2011 at age 90, and my mom in 2020, at 98. I'm the only one left of my family of origin, so there's no one with whom to share stories or verify recollections, and that's really hard. It sucks.

since my brothers died in 2019 and 2022. My parents are long gone. No one left with those memories but me. It's a very strange sensation.

I was going through a rough patch. In my dream, She was lying on a table in the dress she was buried in. She sat up and said that I would be fine, because I had help from the other side. She then told me to hold her hands, which I did.

I said, Grandma your hands are cold. Her response: what do you expect I’m dead.

I woke up smiling with the comfort in knowing everything would be just fine. It was….

That was 20 years ago.

My brother had passed and in my dream I was walking down a street and he was coming from the other direction. As he passed he ignored me. After pleading with him to stop he turned around and said “What”! I asked “What is it like over there “? His reply was “It’s just like here. Except, there everything happens like that” and snapped his fingers.

9. I had a visitation dream about 6 years ago

The relationship between me and my dad was complicated to say the least. It didn't have to be, but that was of his choosing.

I didn't speak to my dad in my dream but he spoke to me and touched my right hand. He told me that it was okay and that he forgave me. To this day, I'm still still trying to figure out why he forgives me, he should be asking me to forgive him.

Back story:
After my parents divorce, my dad stopped all visitation (no birthday cards/no I'm thinking of you type of phone calls, no invitations to spend time together) with me when I was 5. He didn't want anything to do with me until he was approved for disability 9 years later. Because I was his only dependent, he only wanted the additional dependent SSI check that I would be receiving each month. He sued my mom for the additional check and he was laughed out of court by the judge. Then he attempted to start visitation rights again and the very first visit, he said that I could move in with him. My mom tried to explain to me that he was attempting to use me financially, but as a 14 year old I didn't understand his ulterior motive.

Also when I was 20, I had a full-time job and a newborn son. My dad called my supervisor (they actually knew each other) and wanted to talk to me. I told my supervisor that I didn't anything to do with my dad. My dad was reaching out to see if I could be his caretaker in his final days. My mom had already warned me about that too.

Possibly TMI (too much information) but I wanted to be clear that I'm not a callous a-hole to just anyone.

10. I have dreams about recently deceased

I'd like to dream about my youngest brother, but I have never and he died in 1983.

I have dreams with other people I know that have died, sometimes close to the time they died, other times a few weeks or months later. They appear in ideal conditions, and look healthy and happy. I understand from the images in the dream that they are telling me they are okay. I let their living loved ones know about these dreams. No one in my dreams ever talk, but I understand what they want me to know.

I've been having dreams lately of family parties where the living and dead are mixing together. I like those dreams. My favorite dreams are about my husband, and I always have a good day after a dream he is in.

13. We don't talk, are in the same dream storylines as participants together.

I dream of several deceased relatives, mostly from my nuclear circle. They don't talk, are shades in grey and white, but are subjected to the same dream happenings as I am, with me having the impact of the events. But sometimes they are protagonists, coming in and out of the events therefore causing the impact.

*** A few months ago a cousin and I talked about dreams with deceased relatives and she surprised and made me laugh when she said that when she has these dreams she asks them, "Aren't you supposed to be dead?" I said, "How rude!"

I think that's a cool dream.

I'm disappointed that the only person I ever dream about is a childhood friend who was killed in a car crash when we were 40. We hadn't really kept in touch (she was in TX and I had moved to CA in '88) but we were really close as kids and as teenagers.

In the dreams she's not dead...we're just hangin' out. I wish I would dream about my Grandmother and my Dad but I've only dreamt about my Grandmother once and never about my Dad.

My Dad died in 1970 and my Grandmother in 1987.

But I've talked to friends after they died. The first time, a friend who had AIDs (it was the 80s) walked in to my bedroom in the middle of the night and said, I know you were worrying about me so i wanted to tell you that I'm OK. You don't need to worry. And then he disappeared. Talking to him was really nice and comforting, but I woke up in a panic ('omg, i just talked to a dead person. Omg, he's dead.') The next day i confirmed that he had died the day before, but I was sure of that when we talked.

There have been others but the basic message was always the same, they were happy, healthy, whole again. My aunt was pretty amused by her funeral, too.

The weirdest dream i ever had was a few months ago. My dog was sick and dying and i was still trying to keep her happy and comfortable as long as i could. I dreamed that my previous two dogs came to talk with me, in English words. They told me they knew it was hard but it was time for me to let her go and be with them. I did call the vet to euthanize her (though even when the vet came into my house, and my dog got up and wagged her tail at the vet, I asked if there wasn't anything else I could do. She said no.) I saw her some after she died, gamboling and prancing beside me. I was comforted by seeing all 3 of my latest pups, but it was weird that they could talk.
