The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsMan, oh man! I just saw some backpedaling so hard, they could have done the Tour de France backwards!
The "You're not working hard enough" types who recently pissed in my corn flakes just did a "Gracious! Did WE do that?!?"
No doubt after getting a monumental WTF??? from the rest of the float pool, they have amended their 'do another provider's work for him' fiddlyfuck to "We're sorry! We're sorry! We meant 'only if that provider requests help first'!"
So, with any luck, that is sorted out. I'll ask for an apology for their abusive language some other time. Right now, I'm just going to savor the fact that their explanatory e-mail reeks of apologia. Someone higher up than they must have asked them "Is this really how you want to treat trained, seasoned, experienced, and dedicated professionals?"
I can't thank you all enough for your supportive messages. My dear, darling Loungers are the best. I love you all.

(18,412 posts)You may not get the apology you deserve but your actions seem to have garnered respect from others you work with and the next level that could make the change.

(33,291 posts)They absolutely did not treat you with respect. I also wondered if what they were suggested would be legal. If you were not the treating physician could you legally prescribe meds, etc - it seemed like this was a very bad plan from bean counters who had no clue what they were doing. I'm glad things have been set right.

Glad for you.

(67,535 posts)All told exactly the way it happened. Rather than the higher-ups getting involved, I suspect it was the providers whose in-boxes we were being ordered to poke around in that had objections. Anyway, while we were under that idiotic order, the in-box material I found amounted to little more than documents that the provider had completed, but not signed off on yet. Signing off on routine documents that aren't patient chart notes does not generate revenue.
Don't think they thought that one through, or how the providers in question might have responded.

(112,738 posts)The World's Rudest Resignation Letter (TM) and so did they, apparently.
Of course, any reasonably efficient worker who periodically cleans out his/her in box can certainly take on a few more tasks, right? How on earth did you amass the gall to object to that? You mean s/he's going to QUIT? Oh, no!

And if you do quit, it gets funny fast. First there's the blame :I can't find such and such and we need it NOW" "Look in my email inbox, everything since ,my last day is now all yours." "But there's 80 pieces of stuff in there!" "Can't help you, I don't work there any more." That is soon followed by the begging to come in at a consultant's pay, what do you mean you need it in advance?
Yes, the management overreach boogie is a fun dance if you've ever done it. It looks like one of them managed to dimly realize tha's just what was about to happen and made the rest of them reconsider. I imagine screaming and threats were involved.
Just realize this is likely to happen again some time. so keep that rude resignation letter ready to type out. Know your worth, put on your dancing shoes, and have fun!

that were part of our consortium, it was specifically forbidden to go into the chart of a patient you were not caring for, and you could get your ass in a sling if you did.
So glad to hear this idiocy had such a short half-life, so to speak.

(2,708 posts)It doesn't actually surprise me that corporate medicine would try to make highly educated and trained medical personnel into mere wage slaves who must earn their keep by logging in production requirements. But I'm glad they backed off.
